About Morning Star Sanctuary
Mission
The mission of Morning Star Sanctuary is to provide refuge for victims and their children who have fled abusive relationships and to help empower them to break the cycle of violence that controls their lives. Morning Star Sanctuary is a private, non-profit 501c(3) entity open to eligible victims and their children, regardless of race, creed, color, language or nationality.
History
Morning Star Sanctuary was founded in 1986 as the Madison Domestic Violence Shelter. In 2001, after 15 years under the umbrella of the Madison Children’s Home and Domestic Violence Program, the operation became a separate nonprofit organization under the name Morning Star Sanctuary, Inc.
In addition to offering safe residency and counseling for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence, Morning Star has expanded its services to include court advocacy, transitional living and a collaborative effort with Financial Resources for Women and Children, Inc. offering a program of mentoring.
